ABSTRACT
ThepresentstudyexaminestheconflictbetweentheAfricans’traditionsandthe WesterncultureinChinuaAchebe’sGirlsatWarandOtherStories.Itaimsto analyzetheeffectofWesterncultureandpracticesontheIgbotraditionallife. Moreover,thestudyexaminesthereactionoftheIgbopeopleagainstmodernityto preservetheirculturalheritage.ThisstudyemploysBhabha’spostcolonialtheoryof HybridityandMimicry.Thus,chapteronepresentsthetheoreticalframeworkand socio-historicalcontextofthework.Thesecondchapterscrutinizesthethemeof modernityandtraditioninthefollowingselectedshortstories“DeadMen’sPath”, “MarriageisaPrivateAffair”,“Chike’sSchoolDays”,“UncleBen’sChoice”,and “Sacrificial Egg”.
