Abstract

ABSTRACT This study examines the issue of postcolonial psychological oppression in AyiKweiArmah’sThe Beautyful Ones Are Not Yet Born. This study aims at depicting the changes in Ghana brought by colonialism and to describe the situation of the Ghanaian and African society. The study employs postcolonial psychoanalysis theory led by Franz Fanon and Albert Memmi. It examines the psychology of the oppressed in The Beautyful Ones. Hence, the first chapter sheds light on the socio-hisorical and the theoretical framework. Besides, the second chapter scrutinizes the troubled psychologies of Armah’s characters. The study concludes that the colonial legacy of oppression continued to affect the post-colonial realities of the oppressed.
