تتميز لغة الشعر بخصائص معينة، فإنتاج الشعر وسط ظروف نفسية وانفعالية خاصة يستدعي لونا خاصا أيضا من التعبير الملائم لتلك الظروف بحيث " لا يصبح الشعر حينئذ ممثلا للبيئة اللغوية العامة تمثيلا صحيحا، بل يكون ممثلا لمستوى معين هو مستوى الشعر، وهذا المستوى نفسه يختلف من عصر لآخر باختلاف الأجيال وتعاقب الزمن، وتبدل العرف والذوق.
