Abstract Memory plays a crucial role in the learning process, particularly in vocabulary acquisition. This study focuses on investigating the effectiveness of the Method of Loci as a mnemonic technique for improving vocabulary memorization and recall in 3rd-grade primary school learners. Drawing upon empirical research, a mixed-methods approach was employed. A questionnaire was administered to ten primary school teachers to gather insights into current practices and perceptions regarding vocabulary instruction. Additionally, a test and pre-test were conducted with 18 students in each 3rd-grade class, measuring their vocabulary memorization and recall abilities before and after implementing the Loci Method. The main objective of this dissertation is to evaluate the impact of the Loci Method on vocabulary learning outcomes in 3rd-grade pupils. By examining the effectiveness of this mnemonic technique, practical implications for enhancing vocabulary instruction in primary schools can be identified. The results revealed significant improvements in both vocabulary memorization and recall. Implementing the method of Loci lead to a substantial enhancement in learners’ ability to memorize vocabulary words, as evidenced by a notable increase in post-test scores compared to pre-test scores irrespective of pupils’ initial proficiency levels, suggesting that the MOL technique was effective for diverse learners. These findings hold practical implications for educators, highlighting the benefits of incorporating mnemonic techniques, specifically the method of Loci into vocabulary instruction for young learners.
