Abstract

The reliability of a data transmission network depends primarily on the quality of the transmission’s cables (coaxial cable). This requirement requires the detection and localization of soft faults (short-circuits, open circuits), and hard faults (weakness, degradation of cable insulation, etc.). For diagnosing faults, many methods are used to detect and locate faults, including non-reflectometry-based methods (visual inspection, X-ray method, capacitive and inductive methods) and reflectometry-based methods detailed in the first chapter. The objective of this work is to propose methods that accurately detect and localize non-clear faults in wired networks and optimize the performance of coaxial cables using reflectometry and subtractive correlation.
