| dc.description.abstract | Matricariachamomilla is a medicinal plant belonging to the Compositae family. It is widely used in traditional medicine against various skin conditions and its essential oil is also used as an antirheumatic agent. The aim of this work was to evaluate the antibacterial activity of extracts prepared from the aerial parts of this plant. Extraction by aqueous decoction gave the highest yield (25%). Extraction by maceration with methanol gave a yield of 15.2%, and gave 3.8% with ethyl acetate. The antibacterial activity of the plant (extracts) was verified using seven (7) strains including Gram+ and Gram−. The wells diffusion technique allowed to qualify the sensitivity of the bacteria studied as sensitive to all the extracts tested (ZI varies from 8.55 to 14.75 mm). The MICs have been determined and vary between 7.43 to 62.5 mg/ml for the methanolic extract, from 125 and 250 mg/ml for the ethyl acetate and aqueous extracts respectively; the MBCs vary from 31.5 to 125 mg/ml for the methanolic extract, from 250 and more than 250 g/mlfor the ethyl acetate and aqueous extracts respectively. The most sensitive bacteria were Enterococcusfaecalis, Bacillussubtilis, and Pseudomonasaueruginosa. | en_US |
