Abstract
This study aims to highlight the challenges facing the energy sector in the country
and the opportunities for achieving sustainable energy security. The focus was placed on
analyzing the available energy sources in Algeria, including the large reserves of oil and gas,
as well as the tremendous potential of renewable energy, particularly solar energy. The study
also addressed the issue of energy transition, focusing on its drivers and challenges, as well
as exploring the legal and institutional framework regulating this sector. The research relied
43
on the descriptive-analytical approach in the theoretical aspect, and used the case study
method in the applied part, taking Algeria as an example. The policies and strategies
implemented to achieve energy security in the country were analyzed, with emphasis on the
role of various institutions in regulating the sector.
The results of the study showed that Algeria possesses significant potential in both
conventional and renewable energy. However, the utilization of renewable energy remains
weak, despite considerable efforts to encourage investment in this sector.
The study provides several recommendations to enhance energy security,
including increasing investment in renewable energy, diversifying the national economy
away from oil, and developing energy infrastructure. The study also recommends updating
the legal and regulatory frameworks in the energy sector, as well as implementing awareness
and training programs in relevant fields.
