| dc.description.abstract | This study addressed the issue of domestic violence against women in Algerian and international law, focusing on both the national and international frameworks for protecting women from this form of violence. The study aimed to analyze the effectiveness of the Algerian legal system particularly the Penal Code and Family Law in combating domestic violence, while also highlighting legal gaps such as the lack of explicit criminalization of marital rape and economic violence, in addition to the social challenges that hinder reporting and protection. The study also examined international frameworks, particularly the CEDAW Convention and the 1993 Declaration on the Elimination of Violence against Women, in order to assess the extent to which Algerian legislation aligns with international commitments and to highlight the role of international organizations in supporting Algeria’s efforts. The study concluded that, despite recent legal reforms, there remain shortcomings in practical implementation, along with a gap between legal texts and the lived reality of Algerian women, due to limited legal awareness and the lack of effective institutional support.
