dc.description.abstractThis study aims to understand and analyze the development of electricity consumption in Algeria over the specified period of time, and to identify the factors that affected this development, as well as to attempt to develop an econometric model that responds to economic theory and achieves statistical creteria, capable of explaining electricity consumption and analyzing demand for it in Algeria. To address the research problem in a scientific and objective manner, we relied in this study on the descriptive approach within the framework of narrating the theoretical aspect and analyzing and describing the historical data of the study variables, in addition to using statistical and standard methods and techniques in estimating the standard model. The study found a positive impact relationship from economic growth represented by the real gross domestic product variable, where the higher the economic growth rate, the higher the consumption of electrical energy. As for the consumer price index variable, we found that the direction of the relationship was inverse, which is consistent with economic logic, but the impact was weak, which can be attributed to price subsidy in general, and energy and electricity prices subsidies in particular, which makes consumption less affected by rising prices
