Abstract

Abstract The present research tackles with the US media responses to the 9/11 attacks and its important role in giving rise to Islamophobia and shaping the US political and public point of view towards Islam and Muslims. The 9/11 tragic attacks shaped rather than changed the US contemporary history; for they had significant effects in the US media, which is considered as the primary source of information for US citizens. In fact, the US media in the post 9/11 intended to promote Islamophobia in US society as well as to affect the US foreign policy towards the Islamic world through convincing Americans that the 9/11 attacks were an act of war against US and that Islam become a dangerous threat to US. The main objective of the current research paper is to analyze how the US media coverage to the 9/11 attacks played an effective role in changing the perception of Islam, as a religion, for Americans and fueling Islamophobia and anti-Muslim sentiments in US
