Abstract

I Abstract In recent years, most of foreign language learners are encountering in their reading from the lack of engagement and lack of interest and motivation in dealing with the reading process. This is due to the ignorance of the importance of reading in EFL Classes. This research work attempts to investigate the use of reading strategies as reported by EFL students and teachers, and the extent to which the reading process differs with the use of reading strategies. The study was conducted with fifty (50) students, and five (05) teachers at Ouled Sidi Ibrahim secondary school. The appropriate research method is the descriptive one in which we describe the major reading strategies that foreign language teachers and learners may use. Data were collected through students‟ questionnaire, teachers‟ interview, and classroom observation. The findings revealed some positive and other negative points; the positive side is that both teachers and students use language learning strategies to develop reading skills to some extent, and the negative side is that the students and even teachers are not aware of the different reading strategies and only very few ones are used. To this end, this study is an attempt to cover this gap and to integrate learning strategies as an effective factor in developing students performance.
