| dc.description.abstract | Abstract: The object of the research is a fictional authobiographical novel BLACK BOY (1945) by Richard Wright. The study focuses on self-actualization and self- reconstruction of the major character from the perspective of the theory of double consciousness by W.E.B Du Bois. The aim of the study is to show the effort of Richard Wright to achieve his self-actualization. The primary source is the novel itself, and the secondary sources are the theory of double consciousness, Marxism theory,and some articles that are relevant to this research. The writer uses the theory of double consciousness as a technique of analysis. The result of the study shows that a person will be motivated to attain his self-actualization after satisfying the principal needs (basic needs). A person will develop himself, to be what he wants to be and to achieve the goal in life. He will try to grow greater and uses his potential into the fullest | en_US |
