Abstract
This document is intended for first-year students in the fields of science and technology (ST) and material science (SM). It is in line with the base program of the first year in both fields.
This course brings together all the essential knowledge on the laws of static and dynamic electricity, which are notions of necessary basis to understand the effects of charges on materials. Electrostatic targets Coulomb’s law, the electrostatic field and electrostatic potential that is created by static charges and the continuous distribution of the charge. The relationship between charges and potentials in a conductor in electrostatic equilibrium and in capacitors, which are also presented. Dynamic electricity is the field of physics where the manifestations of charges are studied in terms of currents and voltages. Finally, in the last part, the sources of the magnetic field and the behavior of electrical charges are examined in the presence of a magnetic field. A mathematical reminder is given at the beginning of the course.
Following this course (PHY2) requires a basic knowledge of:
- Line, surface and volume elements.
- Differential operators such us: Nabla (del), Gradient, divergence, Curl…
